Pilea Peperomioides Chinese Money Plant 100mm
Years ago, the Chinese Money Plant was so difficult to find, the plants were incredibly expensive and only die hard collectors could afford them. Since we haven't lost our love for this super cute Pilea, the growing industry has caught up and these icon little beauties are now a staple of our indoor plants for collectors and new plant parents alike. With those bobbing large glossy circles, this dude is often called the UFO plant as well as the Chinese Money Plant.
Care Level - Easy. Basic light requirements, and a simple watering scedule will keep this cutie happy. Rotate regularly to keep growth even.
Light - This Pilea likes bright light to low light, but keep in a well lit area expecially in winter. Too much hot sun in summer will lead to burning and dropping of leaves, and can also lead to distorted leaf shapes.
Water - This plant is pretty easy in regards to water. It’s safer to keep on the drier side, especially in winter, but if you water well or forget for a few weeks, the pilea is pretty forgiving. In summer, water when the top inch feels dry, and in winter every two should be enough.
Food - In warmer growing months, give a quality liquid fertiliser monthly for the best growth, but hold off during winter.
Propagation - One of our favourite plants to propagate, baby plants start popping up through the soil around the stem when plants are happy. You can remove these with some roots usually already growing and pot up for an easy baby. You can prop from a cut stem (not leaf) and sit in water for roots to grow, but you’ll ruin the shape of your original plant.
Soil - A rich but well draining soil is best, like a peat based mixed with some added perlite for drainage.
Pets - This pilea is non-toxic and pet safe, so rest easy if you have a plant munching fur baby.
PLEASE NOTE: While we try to show photos of an average plant for this plant and pot size, as every plant is a living thing, plants may be slightly different in some way to the image shown.
